Apprenticeship programmes in England have become the most popular and successful vocational training initiatives in recent years.

Over 800,000 people took an Apprenticeship programme in the last 12 months.

To build on this success the Government have established Trailblazer groups, led by employers, to further develop the quality and relevance of Apprenticeships.

Trailblazer groups will set the standards and describe the skills and knowledge Apprentices will need to be fully competent in an occupation.

The approach is for groups of employers to work together to design new standards for occupations in their sectors. It is important that the standards developed work for both larger and smaller businesses and therefore must involve employers of different sizes.

Currently, three phases of Trailblazer projects are planned, phase 1 covers 8 sectors. Aerospace, Automotive, Digital Industries, Electromechanical, Energy and Utilities, Financial Services, Food and Drink and Life Sciences.

Phase 2 is now underway and includes Accountancy, Conveyancing, Law and Retail. Phase 3 projects will be announced in September 2014.

If you are an employer and interested in joining a Trailblazer group, particularly in Customer Service, Management or Business Administration,
