Intec’s Youth Academy supports young people in the Leicestershire area, providing them with training and work experience as they enter the working world.

As we recover from the global pandemic, both young people and businesses alike are faced with a unique set of challenges. Our Academy programme is designed to develop the vocational skills of individuals whilst providing experience in a real world environment. We’re seeking employers who can provide work experience opportunities for some of Leicestershire's bright young talent.

The Programme takes place over 10 weeks, with work placements flexible around your business (we suggest 1 day a week) and is supported by Intec’s expert Trainers. Intec’s programme incorporates weekly skills development sessions, providing an accredited qualification in the vocational area of choice -- Aligned with work placement activity this becomes a powerful tool to support 16-24 year olds as they launch their careers.

'Intec have strong links with Leicestershire where we have a Training Centre and long standing relationships with key employers across the region. We launched the Youth Academy to address the impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic on both young people and employers. Our work is designed to enable young individuals to develop the skills they need for a successful career as economic confidence returns. We appreciate that employer’s time is at a premium, however, young talent with the right training will support economic recovery.'  Intec’s Managing Director, Darren Bunting

Up until COVID-19, like many other 18 year olds, Ethan had been studying A-Levels at 6th form: 'Covid has had a negative effect on everyone and I decided that sixth form wasn't the best route for me. I'm really looking forward to starting my programme and entering the workplace, gaining more confidence and building my skill set to pursue a successful career.'

Not only are these placements a great way to give back to the Leicestershire community but they can help support local employers. Intec can help businesses who offer these work placements access to financial incentives of £1000 per individual work placement, through the government funded Traineeship scheme.

Intec have been running a successful youth opportunity programme with Career Access Bame since October 2020, Audrey Owususekyere the Project Lead said:“I found Intec Business College through my online research and connected with them and haven’t regretted the decision to have done so. Communication and business support was consistent and helpful through the period of the traineeship. The quality of learners that was submitted was very high. They were ready to learn and engage in the provision of our services.”

Effective as a standalone, or as part of a pre-apprenticeship programme, Youth Academy Leicestershire matches young people with employers based of their career aspirations and Trainees have gone on to complete Apprenticeships, moved into further education or achieved full time employment.
