Barclaycard has been improving staff confidence and developing skills with a new programme of NVQs & Apprenticeships at their site in Northampton. The Direct Sales department for business customers, which includes both a sales support team and a sales team, have been undertaking a range of NVQs & Apprenticeships as the global organisation continues their commitment to support staff in developing their skills. Barclaycard is working with Intec Business Colleges to deliver the qualifications.

Following feedback from a company wide survey, Barclaycard found that staff were keen to develop their skills by focusing on training within their jobs. NVQs were seen as a great solution that also provided staff with a formal qualification at the end. Staff are currently undertaking NVQs & Apprenticeships in Contact Centre, Customer Service and Business Administration at both levels 2 and 3.

Daniel Prior, Sales Delivery Manager at Barclaycard, explained, “The feedback from staff has been excellent. Within the customer services team, staff now have more confidence in speaking with customers and also dealing with complaints".

Their NVQ training has enabled them to see people as individuals and to give them more time when taking their call. The NVQs have also given staff a better insight into their roles and a bigger understanding of contact centres. This has enabled staff to see the range of career opportunities that this industry sector can provide.
