Functional Skills (City and Guilds)

Language and Numeracy skills are fundamental in today’s business world. Our Functional Skills course is an alternative to maths and English GCSE's, tailored to an individual’s knowledge, skills and ability.

Why should you undertake Functional Skills?

  • The majority of employers look for at least GCSE grade 4/C in each subject
  • Those with good grades in maths and English earn approximately £2,000 more than those who don’t
  • Better understanding of maths and English means more control over finances and communication
  • Studies show that higher levels of literacy and numeracy have a positive impact on your mental health and lifespan

Functional Skills are offered at Levels 1 and 2. The process of undertaking Functional Skills includes completing an Initial Assessment to assess your level of learning -  you will then be allocated a specialist Functional Skills tutor who will deliver your qualification remotely once a month and set tasks.

Based on the results, a tailored plan of learning is developed. This means that you will be provided with resources at an appropriate level, tackling the areas that need improvement. There will be skill checks along the process to confirm that you are fully competent in any given topic. After completion of the modules, revision scenarios will be provided to help you practise for a final assessment.
