When Danielle Scherpenzeel joined Telford-based Travelworld in 2012, she was really happy with her role as receptionist and sales administrator.
The 29 year-old from Upton Magna near Shrewsbury settled in well and enjoyed working in the motor home industry. As Travelworld was experiencing a period of rapid growth, a new website was commissioned and Danielle’s interest was aroused.
She says: “An external agency was commissioned to do the new site, work on SEO (search engine optimisation) and set up social media accounts. It was really interesting seeing it all take shape and I was able to see our ‘likes’ growing rapidly.”
Danielle was quick to identify opportunities to promote Travelworld online; she put photos of new motorhome models on Facebook and posted about caravan shows that the team visited. She continues: “The company had grown a lot since I started with them, but there was no one internally responsible for things like that. I loved it.”
Always keen to develop their staff, Travelworld had supported Danielle in a customer service course with Intec Business Colleges. When the course came to an end, Travelworld’s managing director Ross Edwards, suggested she do a City & Guilds Level 3 Digital Marketing course with the same organisation.
“I was thrilled,” says Danielle, “I have been doing reception work for quite a few years and I really wanted to try something new. This really challenges me, it’s like a hobby and I am learning so many new things – I just can’t wait to see what I discover next!”
The icing on the cake is that Danielle has been offered a new marketing role with Travelworld. Expecting a baby in the new year, Danielle will return to her new dream job, even promising to come in once a month whilst she’s on maternity leave to keep up to speed and meet her Intec assessor and mentor, Janet Mackleston.
So it looks like 2016 will be a busy year...
