Building for the future: Jewson

Intec Business Colleges has been working in partnership with Jewson to promote an Apprenticeship and NVQ programme, successfully recruiting over 200 Apprentices into branches nationwide. The Intec Recruitment Service advertised and screened all candidates for roles including; Counter Sales Assistants and Yard Assistants.

Jewson has over 600 branches across the UK and is the leading supplier of sustainable timber and building materials. It offers the widest range of quality materials and products from everyday core essentials to the latest sustainable innovations. The first Jewson branch opened in 1836 and the business is now part of Saint-Gobain, the world leader in the habitat and construction markets.

For Jewson, the Apprenticeship and NVQ programme is about bringing new people into the industry. “We are looking for fresh talent as well as working with our existing staff to build on their skills,” explained Jodie Hammond, Jewson Training Manager “It’s not necessarily an industry people immediately think of joining, but once they are part of it, they find there are huge opportunities to develop a career.”

Jewson staff also have the opportunity to learn new skills. “It’s not just about product knowledge, although this is of course important, it’s also about understanding our customers and the market.” said Jodie. The sustainable business is expanding rapidly and Jewson is constantly striving to find new ways of diversifying. “Taking on an Apprentice complements this new way forward for our business.”

Working with Intec has been a very positive experience for Jewson. “Intec has been very good at communicating directly with us on how our Apprentices are progressing. There is a huge amount of trust involved in allowing Intec into our businesses and we are pleased with the service,” concluded Jodie.
